The Baptistery

Baptistery

Our Lady, Queen of the English Martyrs Roman Catholic Church, Chicago. View of baptistery. Matthew Alderman, Fall 2005.

The severe stone walls of the baptistery suggest the tomb in which all die in Christ so they may live. At the center stands a raised font with an ornate polychrome wooden lid of a design which continues the hybrid Roman-English and Gothic-Baroque experiment of the design.
